Common SRD Statuses Explained

Before you pay anyone to 'fix' your profile, understand what the system is telling you.

SASSA is currently cross-checking your ID with Home Affairs and your income with SARS/UIF. Wait patiently.

Do not submit another application. This status will update automatically once the verification agencies return your data.

Declined

You failed the means test. Usually means your bank account saw an inflow of more than R624 this month.

If you believe this is an error (e.g., someone sent you money for groceries, not as regular income), you have exactly 90 days to lodge an appeal on the SRD portal.

You passed the means test, but payment may still take a few days to generate.

Check your 'Payday' date. Funds take up to 3 business days to clear into commercial bank accounts after the payday.

Security Best Practices

Protect yourself from grant fraud and phishing.

1

Start on the official portal

Log in or check status only via links from sassa.gov.za or srd.sassa.gov.za. If the URL looks wrong, stop.

2

Never share your PIN

SASSA will never call you, SMS you, or WhatsApp you asking for your bank PIN or portal password.

3

Report suspicious links

If you receive an SMS saying 'Click here to claim your R700 grant', it is a scam. Report it to the fraud hotline.
